Leonard Levy Papers 1936-1965

Leonard Levy was a Cleveland, Ohio, attorney who became assistant police prosecutor (1922-1923) and city treasurer (1936-1966). He also served as foreman of the Cuyahoga County Grand Jury. He wrote numerous speeches and articles for the mayors under whom he served, as well as scripts for several radio programs such as "Safety First," "Your Town," and "You and Your Government." The collection consists of newspaper clippings, correspondence, minutes, publications, scripts, and speeches.

Leonard Levy (1895-1985) was born in Cleveland. After graduating from Harvard College in 1916, Levy joined the United States Army and served as an aerial bombing instructor in France during World War I. After the war, Levy returned to Harvard where he studied law. He received his law degree in 1920 and entered private practice.
